Gaza, 23/02/2017--- Press House participated on Wednesday in opening the international conference of human rights defenders in Palestine, which was held in Ramadallah and Gaza. The conference entitled” Promoting Human Rights Defenders and Ways to their Protection”, was supervised by the Palestinian Center for the independency of judicature and law firm”, along with the Palestinian Human Rights Defenders Network in partnership with the EU.
The attendees stressed on the importance of promoting human rights and freedom of expression culture in order to guarantee civilian’s resistance against the Israeli occupation, which is the biggest violator.
During his speech, Hatem Shaheen, the President of the Bar, said; “ there’s a necessity to respect human rights especially in Palestine in order to promote freedom of expression culture, enhance Palestinians’ resistance and rights as they are facing the worst treatment from the occupation.”
He added; “ unfortunately applying freedoms and rights has become so difficult within the painful reality of the political division, and the absence of a mutual Arab project.
Shaheen asserted that the occupational suppression and the political division have forced the youth to think of immigration. He also added that freedom of expression has been facing challenges, which makes us try to fight against this issue in cooperation with all of the effective in-field-parties.
In his turn, Musa Abu Idheem , the Representative of International Commission for Human Rights ICHR, said; “ the best key to the effectiveness of human rights and law organizations of Palestine lies on what the UN guarantees of rights for the nations and individuals in order to fight against the racist policy of occupation.
He noted that the commission always seeks to follow up the human right issues and the violations the defenders face, as well as the issues of journalists and outlets that suffer violations committed against freedom of expression.
In his turn, Mohammad Dawoud, Press House Representative, stressed on the importance of media role in exposing the policies of the Israeli occupation and assuring the demands of Palestinians all around the world.
Dawoud said that Press House have held hundreds of workshops, training courses, lobby& advocacy campaigns that highlight freedom of expression as a basic right for each individual.
He explained that Press House go on delivering a confidential message, there are many obstacles and challenges though.
According to the conference organizers, the Palestinian Human Rights defenders aim to defend human rights through networking and communication between the human rights organizations and the law ones, the network and the civilian through providing legal protection in case there is any violation against the rights, and raising their awareness of their legal rights.
