Palestinian Medical Relief Society Launches "the Sevens" Campaign in Press House

Gaza, 3/11/2015--- Press House- Palestine hosted a conference for launching the national campaign to prevent chronic diseases, which is titled as " Why the sevens", organized by the Palestinian Medical Relief Society.

 

Aaed Yaghy, the manager of the Palestinian Medical Relief, said that this campaign was launched for chronic disease prevention, as these diseases have been widely spread in the high-income countries.

 

He added that the low-income and the poor countries were considered to be the highest percentage of deaths, which is 80%. He explained," there is an increase in the number of the patients of thee a chronic disease at a rate of 6% per annum.

 

Besides, Palestinians of up to 18 years old suffer at least from one of the chronic diseases. Yaghy pointed out that 30% of the up to 18-year-old Palestinians are smokers, saying " theres a gradual increase in the rate of obesity, which is in relevance with the common chronic disease."

 

Bassam Zaqout, the project coordinator of overcome challenges project, explained some details about " why the sevens "Campaign.

 

Zaqout said, "Seven different pieces of advice will be published throughout the campaign about the diseases, using the various outlets and asking people to collect these pieces of advice to be competitors for the winning prizes" He noted that measuring blood pressure and sugar rate week was conducted freely by 4 teams working in the field at different sites of Gaza Strip, asserting that the campaign starts on 23rd November, and ends on 29th of the same month.
