On Thursday, October 07, 2021, Press House – Palestine (BAS) held a dialogue session on the topic of "Violations against Media Freedoms During the Last Quarter of 2021 - What Has Changed?", as part of "Legal Protection for Palestinian Journalists" project activities, in partnership with the European Endowment for Democracy.

The dialogue session was held in Gaza City, with consideration of high prevention measures to prevent the outbreak of COVID 19, with participation of Dr. Ghasan Harb, Head of Journalism Department, Faculty of Media at Al Aqsa University and in presence of a number of journalists (women and men), students and graduates of media colleges.

The dialogue session was opened by Mr. Abdullah Sharsharh (Coordinator of the Legal Protection Unit for Journalists) at Press House, stressing that Press House aims to highlighting on media freedoms violations in Palestine and to show the journalists the most important violations types committed during this year.

From his part, Mr. Mohammed Al Jaesh, Session Facilitator, explained that violations of media freedoms have been raised during 2021, especially at internal level and level of violations committed by Israeli Occupation, because of the stress of internal Palestinian situations, also when Israeli Occupation launched a military operation in the Gaza Strip. A Palestinian journalist was martyred, a number of journalists were injured and a large number of media institutions were destroyed.

The dialogue session presented violations of media freedoms in Palestine during the last quarter of 2021, and reviewed violations types of media freedoms in Palestine and forms of internal violations committed by Israeli Occupation.

Dr. Ghasan Harb, indicated that violations of media freedoms against Palestinian journalists and media workers during period from October 1, 2020 to August 30, 2021, has been reached (874) violations in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, (629) violations committed by Israeli Occupation, (101) violations committed by internal entities in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, in addition to (144) violations against Palestinian media digital rights. The Violations committed by Israeli Occupations have been reached (71.9%) in Palestine.

According to monitoring processes of the Legal Protection Unit, the internal violations by local Palestinian Authorities have been reached (11.5%) and violations of Palestinian media digital rights have been reached (16.4%) out of violations were documented during the mentioned period.
