Gaza - Press House
On Monday, September 06, 2021, Press House – Palestine (BAS)held a legal awareness session on the topic of "Journalist Right in Occupational Safety in light of Palestinian Law", as part of “Legal Protection for the Palestinian Journalists” project activities in partnership with European Endowment for Democracy.
The session was held in the Gaza City, with consideration of high prevention measures to prevent the outbreak of COVID19, with participation of lawyer Mr. Mahmoud Al Talouli, a number of journalists (women and men), students and graduates of media colleges.
Mr. Abdallah Sharsharh, Coordinator of the Legal Protection Unit for Journalists at Press House, mentioned that this session will address the legal commitments of media institutions towards occupational safety for journalists.
Lawyer Mr. Mahmoud Al Talouli, talked about reality of occupational safety for journalists in Palestine, the Palestinian law did not mentioned directly the occupational safety as a basic commitment at press institutions towards their employees, Also he addressed that the labor law mentioned that work in particular should include personal protection and prevention tools for workers from work dangers and committed with the necessary health conditions and to include medical aid tools.
Mr. Al Talouli stressed that the law prevent the institutions from carrying journalist any expenses or deductions from his salary, in return of providing safety and occupational health conditions, as a helmet, bullet-proof shields and identification signs.
The legal awareness session included a number of participations from journalists (women and men), which focused on importance of occupational safety for journalists.
