On Tuesday, April 6, 2021, Press House – Palestine (BAS) organized an awareness workshop for journalists on the topic of “Recording Phone Calls and Ways to Document the Journalistic Interviews” as part of “Strengthening Free & Independent Media in Palestine” project activities funded by the Norwegian and the Swiss Governments.

With consideration of high prevention measures to prevent the outbreak of COVID19, the awareness workshop was held at Press House for a number of journalists (women and men) and media graduates.

Mr. Mohammed Al-Jeish, lawyer and the facilitator of the workshop, reviewed the aspects of the workshop which briefed the legal standards for photography and recording issues according to the Palestinian law as they are the most important tools used by the journalists for preparing their different journalistic materials. He also touched on the prominent legal problems that journalists may face when they use voice records and photos for documenting journalistic interviews without following national and international standards in addition to focusing on the legal procedures journalists should follow in this kind of documentation.

The awareness workshop included many participations from journalists (women and men); most of them stressed the need to raise the level of legal awareness for journalists and focused on the reality of journalistic work and the legal problems they face while preparing investigative reports that may cause legal accountability.
