On Thursday, September 17, 2020, The Press House - Palestine organized a dialogue meeting “ with UNRWA Operations Director in the Gaza Strip Mr. Matthias Schmale via ZOOM application, under the  curfew in Gaza Strip as a result of outbreak of the coronavirus (Coved 19).

Mr. Belal Jadallah, chairman of the Board of Directors at Press House, opened the meeting, in presence of  a group of journalists and writers, Mr. Jadallah confirmed that meeting with Schmale aims to highlight  the efforts of UNRWA to combat the coronavirus in Gaza.

From his part, Mr Schmale confirmed that UNRWA will continue to do everything and trying hard to support refugees in cooperation with local authorities, and that it is working to distribute its services to all beneficiaries as safely as possible.

"The UNRWA wants to do more than it has done and wants to do a lot in this situation, but safely," Mr.  Schmale said, noting that about 2,000 employees work daily to serve refugees in Gaza and put themselves at risk.

Mr. Schmale ‎ referring to the UNRWA had launched a new appeal campaign to raise $94 million, including 22 for Gaza to help refugees who had lost their livelihoods and jobs due to the Corona pandemic.

About the educational process in Gaza, Mr. Schmale ‎ added that there is a cautious trend to resume the educational process in schools in the Gaza Strip, through the application of the system in place in schools in  West Bank, which is the presence of one part of the students today, while the other part the next day.

Mr. Schmale ‎ added, there is no readiness to resume the educational process in Gaza, and the Ministry of Education has not announced a specific date for the reopening schools.

The meeting concluded with the director of UNRWA operations's answer to the participants' questions, which were asked, regarding the UNRWA's assistance to refugees in Gaza, as well as health services and ways to respond to the outbreak of the Coronavirus in the Gaza Strip.

It is worth mentioning that this meeting  as part of Strengthening Free & Independent Media in Palestine ‎Project ‎activities.
