On Thursday,23 July,2020 ‎ Press House – Palestine (BAS), in cooperation with the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, organized a dialogue meeting on the topic of "Promoting Awareness on positive mental health concepts for youth journalists in the Gaza Strip."

Mr. Said Al Kahlout, Director of the Training Department of the General Department of Mental Health was the speaker of meeting, where the meeting was attended by a group of journalists, and included many questions and discussions and presentation of examples on the topic of meeting.

Mr. Al Kahlout has highlighted the importance of mental health awareness for journalists ‎in the Gaza Strip, especially in the light of frequent suicides in recent times at the Gaza Strip, noting that there are 800,000 successful suicides each year around the world.

Mr. Al Kahlout addressed the causes of suicide and its appearances that may lead the suicide person to make the decision and end his life, stressing that these appearances do not come at once, but go through several stages ending with this difficult decision, and that requires the need to track the appearances and causes and try to remedy them.

Mr. Al Kahlout warned of  dealing with suicides in the media without returning to the standards set by the World Health Organization, the most important of which is to stay away from pictures, live broadcasts and sensational headlines and cover the details of suicide, in addition to moving away from reporting the news of famous people suicide, which would be a strong incentive for suicide.

Mr. Al-Kahlout called for the need to investigate before dissemination the suicide accidents, and not to blame each time on the situation and economic conditions in Gaza, explaining that thousands of people in Gaza are living the same conditions, and this in his opinion is not a convincing and sufficient reason.
