The Press House holds a workshop on Gender Sensitivity in Media work

On Wednesday, 21.08.2019, the Press House - Palestine, held a workshop entitled "The Gender Sensitivity in Media Work", in cooperation with the human rights consultant Azza Qassem.

The workshop was attended by a number of members and heads of media groups in addition to a number of graduate students of media colleges in the Gaza Strip, which in its first hour addressed the concept of gender in general and its roles.

Qassem indicated that the situation of the Palestinian women is changing according to their position in Palestine. As women in the West Bank, the 48 areas, the Gaza Strip and the Diaspora are directly affected by the Israeli practices.

The attendees stressed that Palestinian women are the most affected by the society state, with no absolute denial of harm done to men and women considering the difficult situation in the Gaza Strip.

Qassem recommended restoring women's domestic work as a productive and a valuable work and mentioned the political role played by women over the years of the Palestinian struggle.

Qassem also spoke about the importance of the social and voluntary role and the development witnessed in the last few years, which witnessed an increase in the percentage of females over males for several reasons, including the bad economic situation, which forces young males to look for any paid work to provide the necessities of life and marriage.

This workshop is part of a series of activities and events conducted by the Press House targeting young media groups affiliated to the institution, to raise awareness and involve them and develop their media capabilities.
