Journalists Rights Advocating Association holds a workshop at Press House

Journalists Rights Advocating Association held a workshop on Thursday, 31st Jan, 2019 in support of the rights of Free-Lance journalist by the presence of activists and journalists at the headquarter of Press House- Gaza, Palestine.

Mr. Talal Oukal, Political Analyst, addressed that violations against Journalists rose substantially in Gaza and in the West Bank, as a result of the Palestinian division and the Israeli occupation policy.

He also added that Human rights organizations could not act politically in case of detention of any journalist, they could make statement and follow up the journalist case with the Ministry Of the Interior.

Furthermore, he said, there must be networking between human rights and Media institutions. Because Journalists Syndicate can not operate its role of protection without the gathering of these press frameworks with media institutions to make it work in synergy with human rights institutions.

Ala'a Abu Taha , Doctor of International Law, Discussed about the role of human rights organizations, noting that freedom of press did not reach the expected level even at states more stable than Palestine.

He stressed that ," Journalist is constantly exposed to obstacles"

And besides , he added that," There is no special law to protect Palestinian journalists, even though it was mentioned in international documents to provide protection for journalists and Media workers.

He also emphasized that most of investigative journalism had been stopped by security organs not due to fabrications , but it was built on irregularities made by journalist, noting that such incident happens due to the lack of legal information by the  journalist.
