The Reality of Economic Journalism in Palestine

On Wednesday, 19/9/2018, Press House-Palestine held an open dialogue meeting on "The reality of the economic Journalism in Palestine" as part of "Enhancing freedom of expression, the quality and independency of Palestinian media" project.

The meeting was attended by Maher Tabbaa, Director of Public Relations and Media at the Gaza Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Tareq Lubbad, Director of Public Relations and Media at the Ministry of National Economy in Gaza and Ayman Gomaa, Vice President of the Palestinian Contractors Union. In addition to Nahed Eid, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Federation of Electronic Information Systems Companies "Beta", Sameer Skaik, the Vice President of the Palestinian Authority for Restaurants, Hotels and Tourist Services. Moreover, a number of editors of Palestinian newspapers, news sites especially its economic sections, and a group of economic journalists in Gaza Strip attended the meeting.

Belal Jadallah, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Press House, welcomed the audience and spoke about the importance and objectives of the economic discussion meeting. Jadallah said that the meeting comes to review the problems that prevent highlighting the problems of the economy and the private sector and how media's contribution helps in improving them especially under the difficulty of the current situation due to the continuation of the siege and division.

He explained that the meeting aims to strengthen the relationship between the media and the economic sector, in the interest of the Palestinian economy.

Participants spoke about the importance of making a specialized economic journalism by creating Palestinian journalists who have the ability to work in the economic field, analyze the figures, deal with the news in minute detail and provide analytical information to the public.

The participants in the seminar agreed to enhance discussion during the coming period; through holding continuous meetings in all economic institutions for journalists, in order to reduce the gap between media and the Palestinian private sector, thus contributing in serving and developing the economy.
