Democracy between Theory and Practice

On Saturday, 15/9/2018, Press House-Palestine, held a roundtable meeting entitled "Democracy between Theory and Practice" in marking the International Day of Democracy as part of "Enhancing Freedom of Expression, the Quality and Independency of Palestinian Media" project.

The meeting, which was attended by the deputy director of the Palestinian Center for Human Right Hamdi Shaqqura, targeted a number of journalism faculty graduates and media and human rights activists at the Gloria Hotel in the west of Gaza City.

During the meeting, Shaqqura reviewed the values ​​related to freedom and respecting human rights, which are essential elements for enhancing democracy. Democracy provides the necessary nature for the efficient protection and implementation of human rights.

Shaqqura pointed out that the values of democracy exist in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and elaborated in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which enshrines a set of human rights and freedoms that support meaningful democracy.

At the end of the meeting, Shaqqura received questions raised by participants from journalists about the mechanisms of developing the methods of democracy and the protection and respect for the laws and values of human rights in the Palestinian territories.
