Al-Khudari warns: Gaza collapse has reached its last stage

Independent MP Jamal al-Khudari, head of the Popular Committee Against Siege, warned that Gaza collapse reached the last stage in all aspects of life due to the closure of the Karam Abu Salem commercial crossing and the detention of around 2500 trucks full of goods ten days ago.

In a press conference held in Press House - Palestine on Monday, 23/7/2018, Al-Khudari stated that only 30% of factories and industrial workshops in Gaza has been able to continue working despite the siege that extended for more than 11 years.

He pointed out that during the last ten days after closing Karam Abu Salem crossing, preventing export, tightening the allowed area for fishing of the sea, and preventing the entry of fuel, the factories began to be negatively affected because of the gradual lack of raw materials.

He pointed out that the occupation prohibits the entry of nearly 1000 essential goods to Gaza, while still blocking the passage of two thousand trucks loaded with goods for the commercial and industrial sectors.

He confirmed that the situation requires an international resolution to oblige the occupation to lift the siege and open all crossings as well as the safe passage linking Gaza to the West Bank. Moreover, operating the sea passage launched by the People's Committee to confront the blockade in 2012 as a first step towards constructing Gaza's seaport. As well as reconstructing Gaza's International Airport in preparation for its operation.

He affirmed the gravity and illegality of the Israeli procedures imposed on the crossings in Gaza, pointing out that they are considered as a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law, and raise to the collective punishment

Al-Khudari called the international community to pressure Israel to withdraw its actions and procedures against Gaza and to lift the siege completely from Gaza Strip.
